Position Overview

The Lead Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRS) serves as a mentor and recovery coach for individuals participating in program services. This role provides peer-based recovery support services that are trauma-informed, person-centered, and culturally competent. The Lead PRS will also provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to other peer support staff to ensure alignment with Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC) and Texas Administrative Code (TAC) standards. This position supports the delivery of services within a Medicare-accepting behavioral health framework and participates as an active member of the treatment team.

Essential Job Functions

Peer Support

The Lead Peer Support Specialist will provide leadership through mentoring and assisting other Peers in the provision of program goals and services to the individuals assigned to the program.
Fully understand, embrace, celebrate and promote the unique roll of peer staff and how they integrate into the service team.
Be able to support peer staff in navigating self-disclosure, boundaries, and ethical dilemmas by using the Ethical Guidelines.
Collaboratively identify strengths, accomplishments, areas for growth, training needs, and professional goals, and seek out opportunities to refine skills and abilities.
Focus on developing relevant skills to meet daily demands and to prioritize the needs, satisfaction, and preferences of the people served.
Prioritize workplace wellness and self-care. Model mutual respect, consideration, and cooperation.
Assist peers to stay up-to-date with compliance trainings and maintaining their peer certification CEUs.
Ensure all required documentation and data entry necessary for billing and contractual requirements is 100% of the time.
Ensure each participant has a recovery plan in the record.
Ensure peers understand and fulfill their expected weekly service hours and responsibilities. Facilitate a variety of informational support groups using approved curriculum and materials.
Recognize and respond appropriately to crisis/difficult situations and debrief occurrence with supervisor, accepting input and counsel with current and future situations.
Immediately report threats of harm to self or others, and abuse of care givers to appropriate staff.
Practices excellent customer service with every category of customer: peers, staff, families and community providers.
Will assist Program Management staff with developing, designing, and implementing the responsibility of the program as it serves the individuals assigned to the program.
Perform other related job duties or responsibilities as requested or required, whether or not specifically mentioned in job description.

Knowledge and Experience

Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Certification as a Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) or equivalent credential within six months of hire
Minimum of one year of experience in social services, substance use disorder support, or a related field.
Lived experience in recovery or familiarity with recovery communities
Experience working with youth in recovery, behavioral health, education, or social service
Training in peer recovery coaching or a related discipline.
Knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations regarding substance use services and peer recovery models.
Experience in program development, supervision, and performance evaluation.
Must have a valid Texas driver license, a minimum of six (6) years of driving experience, and a clean driving record.
Applicants must be twenty-three (23) years of age or older to comply with Rise Recovery’s insurance requirements.
Must maintain automobile insurance coverage, be able to travel as needed, and be able to meet on a consistent basis the driving record requirements of Rise Recovery’s auto insurance carrier if personal vehicle is driven during company business.
Commit to ethical responsibilities, including maintaining confidentiality, establishing appropriate boundaries, and avoiding dual relationships with individuals served.

Preferred

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, education, or a related field
Food Handlers Certification
Strong leadership and team-building skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain organization in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
Ability to relate respectfully to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.

Skill Competencies

Minimum of three (3) year of full-time work experience in the social services or substance use disorder and/or co-occurring services
Unparalleled passion to serve all people in need of recovery.

Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to remain calm during stressful situations.
Excellent written and verbal communications.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete SAMA and CPR training including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping, and getting on and off the floor without assistance.
Ability to walk, stand, sit for short or long periods of time.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Able to operate standard office technology, equipment and utilize office supplies.

 

Working Conditions

School-based setting with classroom, common areas, and supervision of outdoor school environments such as playgrounds, courtyards, or event spaces.
Regularly scheduled hours may vary during periods of workload fluctuation.
Full-time non-exempt employees shall be assigned to work 40 hours per week, while part-time employees shall be assigned to work 29 hours or less per week to ensure compliance with FLSA, ADA, and ACA regulations.
Occasional night, weekend and holiday hours may be necessary to support additional recovery programming and/or Rise Recovery events.
