Spindletop Center

JOB PURPOSE:  Provides professional support to Military Veteran Peer Network (MVPN) volunteers.  Is responsible for training and providing sufficient information to and coordinating the activities of the MVPN volunteers.  Maintains the website and database for tracking and scheduling volunteer activities.  Engages with local community leaders to advocate for Service Members, Veterans and their Families (SMVF) and develops partnership activities.  Leverages media relations to ensure MVPN advocacy aims and objectives.  Works with prison personnel to coordinate facilitation of Veteran Peer Groups.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:  High school diploma or GED.  Must be a veteran of military service, preferably with combat experience. Strong organizational skills.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

 

Appropriate written and verbal communication. This includes spelling and grammar.
Ability to write progress notes according to standards, assessments, brief mental status exams, memos, letters, various complex reports and miscellaneous other documents with acceptable spelling and grammar.
Computer – skilled in the use of technology with Microsoft Office and all Google applications.
Familiarity with community mental health and other resources
Ability to build rapport with individuals including coworkers.
Demonstrate skill in utilizing appropriate professional tools and interventions.
Interacts with diverse cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds and municipal organizations and agencies.
Acquires and uses new skills as the job requires.
Ability to work with considerable latitude and exercise discretion and independent judgment. This would include skills in problem solving.
Ability to complete all job requirements in a timely manner.

May be required to interact with other consumers, referral sources, outside agencies, and family members to determine needs and actions to be taken.
Current State of Texas Driver License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state.
Liability insurance required if employee will operate personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business.  Must be insurable by Center’s liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicle or drives personal car on Center business.
Must complete all training requirements in month in which they are due.
Availability of a personal vehicle for business use may be required.
Work will take place within office setting, community setting, correctional facilities, and within the homes of clients, which may include shelters and temporary housing and may include exposure to disruptive people and communicable diseases.
May be responsible for providing group services and/or crisis services as needed.
Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test.
Must successfully pass all background screens as required by the state
Ability to input data into computer, make calculations, complete paperwork, produce reports.
Must be physically able to perform all job requirements that may include home visits, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, and standing or sitting for long periods of time if required.
Work flexible hours including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Adhere to professional dress and appearance standards consistent with the position and daily workplace needs.
Essential Tasks & Standards

 

Conducts outreach at local community events to recruit a diverse pool of SMVF Peer Volunteers.
Maintains consumer records in accordance with all applicable standards.
Establishes relationships and communicates with clients, caseworkers, probation officers, family members, and other staff
Screens and interviews Peer Volunteer candidates.  Insures that all volunteers that are accepted meet program guidelines.
Maintains website and database for tracking and scheduling volunteers and volunteer opportunities as determined by supervisory review.
Produces reports on Peer Volunteer activities, including MVPN Peer Training Report and the MVPN JIV Engagement reports are submitted quarterly to [email protected] by the 15th of the month following the end of the quarter.
Oversees the day to day operations of the MVPN.

Conducts all aspects of employment in accordance with Center’s Compliance Program.
Supervision & Leadership Behaviors

 

Onboarding of employees to include submission of the position requisition, conducting interviews and completing the hiring process following Human Resource guidelines.
Conducts performance evaluations of assigned staff.  Performance evaluations are on time and give employees fair and meaningful feedback.
Schedules assigned staff to participate in mandatory training in order to ensure staff competence and development.  Staff required trainings are up to date and staff are given opportunities for professional development.
Monitors performance of department and assigned staff using established reporting processes and provides feedback and coaching to ensure staff meet all contract, productivity and other performance targets.
Manages schedules, attendance and punctuality of assigned staff.  Staff time is reported on time and accurately and staff are able to make use of earned leave.
Supervisor is accessible to assigned staff and they are kept well informed of departmental and center happenings.
Supervisor applies the performance improvement (disciplinary) process consistently and in accordance with center policy.  Utilizes a ?plus one? approach to minimize risk.
Ensure direct reports are aware of and adhere to Center policies & procedures
Observe provision of service by all direct care staff within 30 days prior to completion of any employee evaluation with a minimum of one observed session per year. Observation will be documented via the Clinical Supervision Form.
