We are currently seeking a Peer Advocate to work with young adults in our Seeds to Success program serving Johnson county.
Position Summary
REACH Council is seeking a compassionate, driven Peer Advocate to support youth and young adults ages 15–25 in the Seeds to Success program. This program serves youth and young adults who are not currently in school or employed, helping them identify strengths, explore career pathways, and take confident steps toward long-term success. Peer Advocates act as mentors, connectors, and motivators, guiding participants through structured activities, skill development, and goal planning.
This is a Contract Position that starts 9/1/2025 and ends 12/31/2026.
Annual salary range of 40,000 to 45,000 dependent on experience
Schedule:Â Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Must have flexibility for at least one to two evenings per week and one to two Saturdays per month, with phone availability for participant support.
Key Responsibilities
Provide non-clinical peer support using emotional, practical, and social guidance to help participants build confidence and direction.
Facilitate engaging workshops, community events, and career-readiness activities such as team-building, volunteer projects, and educational field trips.
Maintain participant files, including signed forms and notes, to ensure compliance with program guidelines with timely documentation including assessments, participant goals, and support plans.
Assist in data collection and data reporting to key stakeholders and community partners.
Implement outreach and engagement strategies to connect with hard-to-reach youth/young adults and maintain ongoing support throughout their journey.
Provide one-on-one mentorship to help youth interpret interest inventories, build life skills, and connect to educational or vocational opportunities.
Build partnerships with local employers, schools, training programs, and community partners to expand resources and options for participants.
Assist with arranging transportation, appointment scheduling, and other practical tasks that help participants remove barriers and reach milestones.
Facilitate weekly peer support groups designed to build accountability, motivation, and community.
Design and lead participant-led service projects that promote leadership, social responsibility, and community engagement.
Work collaboratively with community partners engaged in project and other REACH team members.
Represent the Seeds to Success program in presentations to community groups and stakeholders.
Maintain knowledge of positive youth development, mentorship models, and culturally responsive practices.
Perform additional duties aligned with the mission and goals of the program as assigned.
Skills & Abilities
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Strong interpersonal, motivational, and public speaking skills
Organized, resourceful, and confident working with diverse youth populations
Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft word and excel
Ability to inspire trust, communicate with empathy, and promote self-empowerment
Comfortable working in schools, community spaces, and in the field independently
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Ability to work both independently and with a team
Education & Experience
High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
Experience working with youth or young adults in mentoring, education, workforce development, or social service settings
Group facilitation experience preferred
Extensive knowledge of alcohol, tobacco and drug abuse and its physiological, psychological and social effects is required.
Lived experience or working understanding of substance use, mental health and recovery strongly preferred.
Ability to create next steps and innovate when faced with ambiguity
Comfort with and initiative in public speaking opportunities
Experience working in diverse environments
Must have knowledge of Federal Confidentiality rules.
Other Requirements
Must have strong public speaking skills.
Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
Dependable transportation and phone required.
Must have a current driver’s license and auto insurance and willingness to drive to areas within Ellis and Johnson counties.
Must have a positive attitude, flexibility, and ability to work in a non-structured environment.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $40,000.00 – $45,000.00 per year
