Description

Help identify and remove personal and environmental obstacles to recovery.
Link new recovery people to the recovery community and help develop recovery capital.
Serve as a personal guide and mentor in the management of personal and family recovery.
Determine the recoveree’s Stage of Change. Provide stage appropriate resource information.
Use Motivational Interviewing and active listening to encourage self-advocacy and mobilize resources for change.
Provide honest feedback on the recovery process and celebrate successes.
Help identify patterns of behavior.
Identify potential problem areas and assist in problem solving and identifying options.
Provide linkage to the recovery community, treatment, sober housing, health and social services, recovery-conducive employment opportunities, and recovery support services.
Set boundaries but be available at alternative hours when the recoveree may need support.
Act as a representative/advocate when requested. Assist the recoveree in navigating the health and social services system.
Develop wellness plans based on recoveree’s goals.
 

Requirements

High school diploma or GED. At least three (3) years’ experience working with recoverees. Knowledge of community resources; special treatment issues relating to the injection drug use, substance use disorders, HIV and community support programs. Knowledge of community resources; special treatment issues relating to the injection drug use, substance use disorders, HIV and community support programs. Ability to mentally and physically cope with stresses caused by regular exposure to the effects of clients’ behavioral health issues and respond appropriately to client crises and seek help in coping when needed through supervision, case consultation or counseling when needed. Ability to respond compassionately to persons who are in any stage of recovery and their partners/family.
