The MHPS Specialty Training is an extensive program approved by HHSC (Health and Human Services Commission). Upon finishing the course and successfully passing the knowledge assessment, students will earn their certification.

Essential skills: active listening, holding space, group facilitation, promoting self-help, and understanding federal and state mental health systems’ impact on peer specialists.

Significance of the environment in mental health, problem-solving approaches, managing fear, considering the whole person in peer specialist practice.

Maintaining ethical boundaries, being an effective change agent, navigating power dynamics, and addressing conflicts with integrity.
